How to start a NHWQ group

Any resident of Queensland who is people focused and has a commitment to working with others to make Queensland a safer place can establish a NHWQ group.

NHWQ is about people and for NHWQ to be effective people must have a focus on:

• engaging people in their street
• bringing people in their neighbourhood together and
• building peoples’ sense of belonging to their community

NHWQ is about promoting a healthy and safe environment for all people. It is apolitical, non-sectarian and open to everyone who has a genuine interest in creating a safer and stronger community. Unlawful discrimination, harassment, bullying, vigilantism and any other type of negative behaviour that victimises any person or group of people is not tolerated.

Prior to the QPS supporting a NHWQ group, certain criteria should be met. This criteria includes the support of the:

• community (neighbours, businesses, community groups)
• local Officer-in-Charge of Police
• local District Officer of Police
